These Ceramic Fruits and Plants Look Like They Came Straight Out of a Sci-fi Show

Ceramic artist William Kidd is creating ceramic pieces that you won’t see anywhere else. Instead of coffee mugs and vases, Kidd makes fruits and plants that look like they came straight out of a sci-fi show like Star Trek.

Still, in order to create his imaginative and “otherworldly” ceramics, Kidd isn’t inspired by science fiction, but smaller forms of life on Earth like fungi, cacti and sea life.

“Inspired by the beauty found in the natural world, my work is not an imitation of any real living thing, but rather life forms that might exist in some otherworldly place.” – the artist explains in a statement posted on his website. “Microorganisms, fungi, seeds, cacti, and sea life have been observed in great detail which has inspired me to create these “organic possibilities”.”
