You Can Now Get a Taco-Croissant Hybrid in San Francisco

Tacos and croissants are both delicious meals on their own, but what would happen if you combined them into one single food item? Would this fusion meal double down on the delicious scale or would it be a complete disaster? Well, Vive La Tarte in San Francisco decided to find this out.

This restaurant is offering unique taco-croissant hybrids called ‘Tacros’ that have quickly become a sensation on social media. Tacro has flaky golden-brown croissant serving as a shell that is then filled with meat, vegetables, and sauce like a regular taco.

According to Vive La Tarte’s creative director Jimmy Houghton, it took two months to perfect the recipe for Tacro.

“We took our regular croissant dough that we make and we tried to fill it with pulled pork or with chicken, and we found that the flavors didn’t combine well. The pastry was way too rich, way too buttery, way too sweet,” Houghton told SF Gate. “We went back to the drawing board, and we said it needs to be saltier, needs to be a bit more savory.”

The shop offers two regular Tacro options: pulled pork with pineapple and chicken with avocado, and a vegan option that includes barbecue jackfruit. More flavors will follow soon, including bacon and egg breakfast ttacro.
