Agnes Loonstra: Full-Time Illustrator, Part-Time Self-Claimed “Crazy Cat Lady”

32-year-old Agnes Loonstra is a sought-after freelance illustrator with a distinct style and a penchant for cats. Her illustrations often appear on magazines such as Jamie Magazine, Flow Magazine, Charlie Magazine (BE) and Grannies Finest Magazine, to name a few.

It’s easy to spot a Loonstra creation: Cut-and-paste style drawing, bold colors, a humorous approach to life and frequent appearances of cats.

Earlier this year, Loonstra released a book that’s all about her feline obsession, the aptly-named Crazy Cat Woman.

“This assignment was a dream come true!,” writes Loonstra on her webpage. “Together with my dear friend And lookalike Ester Scholten I made a Crazy Cat Lady book for Workman Publishing. Once a dowdy, eccentric figure with at least a dozen cats shedding hair on every available surface, today the Crazy Cat Lady is a hip-at-any-age woman who knows an unassailable truth: Cats are awesome!”

But of course, there’s more than just cats to Loonstra’s art. For example, she recently did a series of illustrations depicting the trending subject of Cuddling Workshops:

“Did you know there’s this thing called ‘cuddling for beginners’? It’s a workshop where you, you might have guessed it, hug! Selma tried it out and I made a bunch of drawings about it for Charlie magazine,” she writes.
