Artist Paints Mice On Antique Pieces

Rhonda Cable describes herself as a self-taught folk artist and decorative painter with a unique style and designs; she enjoys re-purposing antique and vintage castoffs that no longer have a use.

Her work has been published in various media and she have taught Decorative Painting for over three decades. Rhonda has a home-based studio on her farm where she creates her masterpieces.

“Some months ago I started painting what I call mousels, wee little field mice in various adventures,” artist shared. “In some pieces I will add other animals, usually painted on antique pieces. Each finished piece also comes with a short story. They have become very popular and I receive orders daily for a personal little mousel and story.”

All finished….hope it meets with your approval. Wilbur Horatio Woodruff was a mousel raised in the stately home of Mr. Pendergast. Through the years they became constant companions even though most of the town thought him a recluse. Earlier in the day they had a rather explosive confrontation in the parlor with young Pollyanna and her friend Jimmy. The parlor floor and desk were covered with loose prisms from where Mr. Pendergast was discussing the principles of light in the creation of spectrums or rainbows on the walls. Wilbur was only able to carry one or two prisms but together they accomplished the chore. Then it was time for tea and biscuits…and some quiet time in the parlor…Mr. Pendergast in his leather chair and Wilbur on the arm….watching the rainbows twinkling on the walls and ceiling…..all is calm. #handpainted #mouse #antiqueschoolbooks #PollyAnnabyElenorH.Porter

Hadley Elizabeth Thackeray was a very small mousel for her age, smaller than most actually. She lived in the old general store…..a varitable castle of nooks and crannies….places even the tinest of mousels could get into. And places were the two cats, George and Gracie,…. could not! In the middle of the store was a big ole' wood burning stove. She had watched the store owner many a times pull his knife from his pocket and open the chestnuts he had roasted for his daughter….the one with the long brown curls. The school books around the on floor belonged to her…but Hadley knew her to not be afaid of mousels as she was pretty sure the chestnuts were left on purpose.
