Caro Arevalo’s Mesmerizing Art Consists of Dots and Patterns

Caro Arevalo’s art is meant to be experienced. Consisting of repeating shapes that are arranged in symmetrical patterns, it makes for a meditative, sometimes hypnotic, space. With an emphasis on repetition and interconnection, her patterns are made by tiny dots – micro-expressions of existence which, together, form macro worlds.

Born in Peru and currently based in Brooklyn NY, Arevalo draws inspiration from what she calls her “Amazonian heritage.”

“I embrace the importance of rituals and ancestral wisdom as they taught me that by observing nature we notice that there is no real separateness in-between beings and that the whole universe is connected,” she explained in an interview with the DUFMOD blog. “These are the building blocks of my artwork.”

Her art is very much influenced by her state of mind.”I love being able to focus on paintings that resemble the current theme I am obsessed about, and not having to follow other people’s agendas,” she says. “The worst part is I am still learning how to stop working, as nature is what inspires me I sometimes feel a necessity to paint all the time, but I have found that stopping to just rest or gaze is so helpful too.”
