Shantell Martin is famous for her signature black and white drawings which combine patch-worked faces with simple messages.
She explores various themes such as identity, intersectionality and other topics relating to the modern human condition. Her public murals and gallery exhibits are created with a meditative process, resulting in free-flowing doodles.
“Her compositions embody her internal state and the impermanence of the world around her,” her website reads.
The New York-based artist has collaborated with iconic brands and legendary artists such as Kendrick Lamar and Kelly Wearstler. She’s also an adjunct profession at NYU Tisch in the Interactive Telecommunications Program, where she combines visual art with storytelling and technology.
