Haunting Drawings About Healing and Loss

“Haunted Bodies” is a collection of hybrid drawings and poetry about depression and healing, created by Portland-based artist Christina Mrozik. She combines flora and fauna elements to create haunting new forms. Though these unnatural combinations seem creepy, they express the deeply human emotions of loss and fear.

“At their core, they are about the essentials of what it is to be a human who hurts, one who wrestles in the dark and stares down pain in a fierce attempt to heal. During that period of darkness, I struggled to find clear language to define my experience, so I wrote in metaphor and drew my mourning attempting with each stroke to get at the feeling of the thing,” Mrozik wrote in Kickstarter.

She hopes that her book can help someone during the times of sorrow and pain. “I’m curious if we can carve spaces where although we may feel lonely, we can remember we are not alone, that there are others fighting for their hearts and spirits scattered across the globe.”
