Copenhagen’s Redesigned Experimentarium Museum Features A Majestic Spiral Staircase

A 10-ton copper staircase designed by CEBRA – a Danish multidisciplinary architecture studio – was installed at the main entrance of Copenhagen’s new science and technology center, the Experimentarium.

The museum and its 4-story helical staircase were designed by CEBRA who wanted to create something that would reflect the center’s science-based curriculum. The design, which includes 20,000 pounds of copper and 320,000 pounds of steel, is an abstract version of a DNA strand’s composition at a remarkable scale.

CEBRA was awarded to design the building in 2011. The substantial extension and refurbishment of the Experimentarium’s old building include a huge roof terrace, modern staff facilities overlooking the museum, a large café and a picnic area, a convention center, teaching facilities and a series of workshops.
