Medusa 🐍☠️ One of the most misunderstood characters of Greek Mythology. Medusa wasn’t always a monster she was quite the opposite. The daughter of two sea gods, she was born mortal and one of three sisters. She was said to be extremely beautiful and many men lusted for her but out of respect to the goddess Athena, she remained a virgin. She then went on to be a Priestess at Athena’s temple. Thousands of people flocked to see her beauty and people claimed that her hair was more beautiful then Athena’s. Over time Athena grew jealous of Medusa and her envy turned to resentment. One day when Medusa was walking along the beach, she caught the attention of Poseidon, the God of the Sea. He was instantly blown away by her beauty and wanted him for herself. She refused him because to be part of Athena’s temple, she must remain a virgin. Poseidon had been in conflict with Athena and he saw Medusa as a possession, he grew tired of her rejection so he decided to force himself on her. Afraid for her life, Medusa ran to Athena’s quarters looking for protection from the Goddess but she received none. After the event Athena appeared and was enraged. She decided to punish Medusa by cursing her. The hair she was once so envious of, she turned into venomous snakes and made her face so ugly, her stare could turn any man to stone. 🐍 Headdress, wig and makeup all by me.
