Chappell Roan is the latest example of how viral fame can translate to chart success, as social media led many people to discover her music. Her biggest hits are steadily climbing up the charts, and “Hot To Go!” is even hailed as the next “Y.M.C.A.”
“Hot To Go!” was released as a part of Roan’s debut album The Rise and Fall of a Midwest Princess, which entered the top ten on the Billboard 200 chart last month—despite being released in September last year. Roan said she wrote it because she’s a huge fan of audience participation, and she wanted a silly and simple song that allowed her to live out her cheerleader fantasy.
As Roan’s music started gaining traction thanks to the success of “Good Luck, Babe!”, people started rediscovering older songs, and “Hot To Go!” became an unexpected viral hit. “H-O-T T-O G-O” went viral hit on social media, with many TikTok users mimicking the moves from Roan’s music video.

Its infectious energy and silly lyrics draw comparisons to other songs, with some people going so far as to describe it as modern “Y.M.C.A.” We’ll leave it to you to decide if this song is as catchy as the Village People classic, but we’ll certainly be hearing it all summer long.
