Steven Harrington Releasing Mello Toys to Mark His First Ever Museum Solo Exhibition

Steven Harrington is a Los Angeles, California-based artist who gained quite a following on social media and in the art world thanks to his vibrant and psychedelic-infused works. Harrington recently opened up his first-ever museum solo exhibition and decided to honor the occasion with a limited release of Mello toys, which are based on the dog character that is frequently included in his works.

The release, titled Subconscious, features four Mello toys, which are faithful replicas of Harrington’s sculptures dedicated to the character, and each comes in different color combinations. Additionally, the toys hold one of Harrington’s paintings in their hand, with the piece being removable.

Harrington’s first-ever museum exhibition, titled Stay Mello, is being hosted by Amorepacific Museum of Art in Seoul, South Korea. The exhibition, which represents a comprehensive look at the artist’s career, is on display through July 14, 2024. Subconscious toys will be available in the museum’s shop starting June 6.

“A lot of artists are never given the chance to see their work in a museum like this within their lifetime,” Harrington said in a chat with Hypebast. “So it’s a tremendous honor. Overall, working with the team was a really big learning experience in not only how to look at the work, but how to organize it and look at the evolution of the work, while critically seeing the images themselves.”
