Turkish artist Aydin Buyuktas combined drone photography and his excellent Photoshop skills to create surreal images of Istanbul.
The photographer is shooting cityscapes from above and then bends and warps them using Photoshop in a way you probably haven’t seen before. The resulting images, featured in his newest series ‘Flatland‘, look like they were inspired by mind-blowing scenes from Christopher Nolan’s Inception.
“We live in places that most of the times don’t draw our attention, places that transform our memories, places that the artist gives another dimension; where the perceptions that generally cross our minds will be demolished and new ones will arise,” said Buyuktas.
Creating these incredible shots was a complex, long process. It took Büyüktaş two months to figure out how to create the images using a 3D simulation of Istanbul. He then started shooting these locations multiple times with a camera-equipped quadcopter – this lasted for days.
“Waiting for right weather was challenging. There were so many times I had to turn back without any photos because of bad weather, technical problems, birds that attacked my drone, and permission issues with flying.”
His efforts eventually paid off with these magical photographs. Take a look.
