These Miniature Paper Birds Are Simply Adorable

It all started with a challenge: creating every day, for a whole year, miniature birds using only paper and watercolors. But Indian artists and designers Nayan Shrimali and Vaishali Chudasama soon realized that their delicate paper creations are much more than that and with over 13 thousand followers on Instagram – the hype was real.

“The concept of this miniatures is to express the intricacy and vibrancy of the birds around us,” they explained to Bored Panda. “We used the technique of layered paper cutting to give volume to the artworks and get a three-dimensional feel to them.”

All works are hand-cut and hand-painted, with each layer painted to the exact shade of the bird after which it is assembled. Depending on the level of details, each artwork takes from 4-8 hours to complete.

Aside from birds, the two create other paper animals and also sell jewelry and dioramas – all can be bought on their online Etsy shop.

The Chinese crested tern (Thalasseus bernsteini) is a tern in the family Laridae, closely related to the Sandwich tern, T. sandvicensis, and the lesser crested tern, T. bengalensis. It is most similar to the former, differing only in the bill pattern, which is the reverse of the Sandwich tern's, being yellow with a black tip. From the lesser crested tern, which it overlaps in wintering distribution, it can be told by the white rump and paler grey mantle, as well as the black tip to the bill, which seen from up close also has a white point. The larger greater crested tern is also similar, differing in its stouter, all-yellow bill and darker grey mantle and rump, as well as in size. . . . . #bird #papercut #paperart #papercutart #sculpture #paperbirds #miniature #chinesecrestedtern #savebirds #endangeredspecies #ternsofinstagram #contemporaryart #artcurator #naturalhistoryillustration #artistofinstagram #birdlover #birds_nature #birdnerd #nvillustration #etsy #beautifulbirds #365feathersproject
