Inspired by the works of Gustave Doré, Ingres, Caravage, Dali and Breton, French artist Veks Van Hillik found his own style, strongly influenced by pop culture, comics, video games, street art, and tattoos.

Using strategic positioning and understanding of optical illusions, Hillik created a clever way to combine two amazing designs into one incredible tattoo. He inks shape-shifting creatures that transform as the body moves. The crucial part of his design is hidden in the folds of legs and arms. You will only see the full image of his body art once you see it in action.

Working in a freehand manner, Hillik draws directly on the skin, allowing him to change things on the fly, which is integral in creating a realistic illusion. When his client’s arm or leg is folded, the ink appears to be a single object. But when the body is stretched out, it suddenly changes into something, like in the case of his insect tattoos, you can see the creatures spread their wings and it’s beautiful!
