Artist Creates Paper Butterflies in Memory of Her Grandmother

Maria A. Aristidou is a young artist based in Larnaka, Cyprus who can a simple sheet of paper transform into a beautiful butterfly.

The project was born in March 2017, after her grandmother died. While she was locked in her studio, coping after her loss, she wanted to create something that will be dedicated to her granny. She came up with the idea of making butterflies that have a deep and powerful representation of life.

She chose the royal blue color which signifies the importance and the impact that her grandmother had in her life and also, the blue represents her sadness.

Nowadays, Maria makes a living out of the stunning butterfly domes. She expanded the color range and started experimenting with other colors such as green, orange etc. and placing them into domes and boxed paintings.
