Meet The Chef That Makes Pop Culture-Inspired Cakes

Have you ever seen a cake that was so beautiful it was a shame to eat? Nick Makrides spends his days making exactly those kind of cakes.

The Australia based chef is the mind behind The Scran Line, a “food project” that’s goal is to spread the love of baking and pastries through social media.

Nick has a unique approach to pastries – originally a graphic designer, he makes sure his creations aren’t only delicious, but also gorgeous to look at. He draws his inspiration from pop culture, especially idols like Beyoncé, and uses everything from fluorescent food colorings to edible gold and coal to bring his visions to life.

Nick wasn’t always such a talented chef. In fact, when he first signed up for a cooking class, he hated it so much that he dropped out. But then, a trip to France changed his mind, and he decided to give it another go, this time focusing on baking instead of cooking. He fell in love with baking and started building his brand, combining his new-found love of baking with his designing skills. Now he has a huge online following online, with more than 400 thousand followers on Instagram, a successful YouTube channel and a book coming out soon! Check out his lovely IG grid and try not to drool all over the keyboard…
