Tattoo Artist Inks Life Cycle of a Rose on Bodies of 70 Strangers

Each tattoo tells a unique story and has a special meaning for both a person and a tattoo artist who inks it. Well, tattoo artist Balazs Bercsenyi decided to take this storytelling to a whole other level with his ambitious project “Life of a Rose.”

In this project, Bercsenyi decided to ink the life cycle of a rose on the bodies of 70 strangers. He depicted each step of the cycle – from just a small plant to blossoming and eventually dying out – on the skin of different individuals. This way, each of them told a small part of the artist’s unique story.

“I wanted the story to evolve around a rose because it is such a beautiful symbol and metaphor of love,” Bercsenyi told My Modern Met. “It represents the cycle of life, when the rose is born and then used as a tool to uplift and inject expression for a human being. The rose is a perfect example of how we should live our lives, to bloom and give our gift away.”

After coming up with this unique idea, Balazs Bercsenyi created an application form on which more than 600 people responded. Around 100 of them were given the opportunity to participate in the project and were told to choose their own day and time when they would like to be tattooed. But they didn’t know that by setting up the appointment, they also assigned themselves a stage in the life cycle of a rose which was then transferred to their skin.

After tattooing each individual, Bercsenyi took photos which were then used to make a video showing “Life of a Rose.” Check out the video below as well as the story about this amazing project.
