Meet Jamel Saliba – the woman behind Melsy’s Illustrations, who turned her Instagram account into a very profitable business. Her incredible talent and business sense gained Saliba 123,000 followers and thanks to this she is projected to make $709,000 this year.
Inspired by a fashion illustration poster she received for her birthday, Saliba made her first illustration in 2013. At the time she had a full-time job at a Massachusetts-based defense company but wasn’t happy there.
“Illustrating helped me get through the hard times at my job. I couldn’t wait to go home and draw.”
Once she started a lifestyle account on Instagram and received a lot of positive feedback, Saliba decided to quit her job and devote all her time to Melsy’s Illustrations. It took a lot of courage to make this decision, but it certainly paid off – her business has been growing every year.
“Definitely don’t get discouraged easily. I feel like now, people think, there’s so many other people out there doing the same thing, or, the algorithm changed. But it doesn’t matter as long as you have something unique and you use Instagram to your best ability,” Saliba shared her advice for Entrepreneur.
