Artist Creates Remarkable Optical Illusion

Some love arts, some physics, and other love math… but one young American girl loves it all!

Katy Ann Gilmore is a Los Angeles-based artist who has a degree in mathematics. When she discovered her passion for art, she came up with an idea to combine it with her math knowledge, and the rest is history. She creates intricate geometric art and wall murals that illustrate topographies found in nature, unusual 3D shapes and mysterious and scary-looking portals.

Katy loves spending time in nature, from where she seeks her inspiration. Her arts are highly detailed, rhythmic and symmetrical. What a great way to mix mathematics, physics, nature, and art, right?

Me when I saw Mt Shasta: 😍❤️🤤. I'm slowly making my way up to Seattle! I spent yesterday in San Francisco, then stopped too many times to stare at Mt Shasta, and now I'm in central Oregon. I loveeee solo road trips. I've just been listening to music, podcasts, silence, y hablando español en voz alta. Había un tiempo cuando podía hablar español con fluidez. Pero no he hablado mucho hace 7 años. Pasé un rato en la República Dominicana, y allá fueron establecidas mis habilidades. No vienen tan fácilmente las palabras y por la mayoría no las vienen sin pensar. Y cometo más errores que antes. Pero todavía partes de mis sueños son en español, y trato de tomar ventaja de cada oportunidad para practicar…jajaj y una de las maneras es hablar en voz alta mis pensamientos cuando estoy manejando. Y escuchar podcasts…Alguien tiene una sugerencia de podcast o algo así en español?

Surprise! Here's a fun project I've been working on. 🤗 When i first moved here almost 6 years ago, i didn't have a car. After 6 months, I bought this car in Illinois over the holidays and drove it back with a couple friends. This 2002 @nissan Maxima for me signifies a bit of my life here in LA and how it's developed. I didn't have a lot of resources when I bought the car, and I felt so insanely lucky to have it. Like I've kissed the dashboard more than once. 😂 Weird? Maybe weird. My friends joke that I'm weirdly attached to this car…but really…I am. 😍 I bought a @honda CR-V (peeking in the corner of the frame) a few months ago, and instead of selling my Maxima right away, I decided to do something fun. The paint job / clear coat got messed up last summer, which I was pissed about at the time. But…then it ended up being an impetus because I thought, "oh well, the paint job can't get any worse, might as well try painting it". This car used to be beige, and last month I sanded the hell out of it, taped it all up, primed it, and sprayed it black. I've had the goal to paint a car for awhile, and I'm so happy to finally be realizing it! Also working / being outside in the sun makes me so happy, so that's been a plus. 🙌I'll be completing it over the next 6 weeks (sharing progress on my IG story!), so stay tuned for your chance to see it in LA! @nissanusa
