Take a Look at This Amazing Artists’ Shadowy Creations

The world is so full of beautiful art by talented artists, which makes it very difficult to create something completely new. But Vincent Bal, an artist and filmmaker from Belgium, has managed to do just that. Bal created a style he called “Shadowlogy” – drawing with pens and shadows.

Vincent’s process is simple: he takes everyday objects and places them on paper. He then incorporates these object’s shadow into the drawing and draws characters that interact with them. The final product is as much a game as it is art: without the object to cast a shadow on the paper, the doodles seem incomplete, and probably a bit confusing. But then, once you put the object back on the paper, its shadow completes the picture.

Vincent seems to be inspired by everything around him. So many different objects are used in his drawings: empty water bottles, tiny plant pots, all kinds of fruits, scissors and glasses, to name a few. The drawings are just as imaginative as they are unique – they include people, animals, and landscapes. The one thing all of them have in common is Vincent’s style of drawing which is simple and funny, a lot like the cartoons we can find in newspapers.
