These Fictional Maps Pay Tribute to Animals and Nature

DAU-DAW is a graphic artist from Denmark who loves turning his ideas and concepts into unique and beautiful works of art.

Inspired by his great love for both nature and animals, he created little worlds or “maps” that reflect the nature and different kinds of animals. Each piece takes between a few days and several weeks.

“The ‘maps’ are all divided into different countries and every mountain, every lake, every city and every ocean in these pieces are named after everything relevant to the title of each piece. Take for example Felidae – Land of the Lion. Everything in this ‘map’ is named after both fictional and actual lion species that are either extinct or still around today,” he wrote on Bored Panda.

His artworks are all fictional and do not reflect actual geographical locations.

🦁 Felidae – Land of the Lion 🦁 The Felidae comprises two subfamilies, the Pantherinae and the Felinae. 'Mustelidae – Land of the Otter' The Mustelidae (from Latin mustela, weasel) are a family of mammals, including weasels, badgers, otters, ferrets, martens, mink, and wolverines, among others. There are about 60 species in this family across eight subfamilies. Macaca – Land of the Macaque has a country called 'Prehistoric species' as you can see on the first close-up picture in this post, meaning that every name within this country is the Latin name for a prehistoric fossil macaque monkey that used to wander the earth.
