This Illustrator is Living the Dream

Judging by his rich portfolio, London based illustrator, Steve Scott, is having a blast. His illustrations – bright, colorful, and all-around delightful – are very much character-driven. Through their carefully planned composition, a narrative is constructed – a sort of cinematic scene that’s frozen in time.

“I really love tight interlocking designs, playing with the planes of a flat image,” said Scott in an interview with The Association of Illustrators. “In the end, a picture is a 2D plane. Illustration is a flat medium that can give the illusion of depth.”

“I’m really inspired by the environment around me,” he added, talking about his creative process. “I love trying to draw something a bit magical out of the mundanity of my local shops, or the ramp road on the north circular. In terms of artworks, I’m a big fan of the atom style movement that came out of Belgium and France in the 80s. Drawing inspiration from artists like Yves Chaland, Ever Meulen & Serge Clerc.”

His energetic style has attracted clients like Nokia, Sony Ericsson, Volvo, and Apple, and he has even created screen graphics for a Led Zeppelin tour. “I feel lucky to be able to do this,” he says. “It does feel like a dream job.”
